James Meindl, director of the Joseph M. Pettit Microelectronics Research Center and the Joseph M. Pettit Chair Professor of Microelectronics, is the founding director of the new Nanotechnology Research Center. His research focuses on physical limits on gigascale integration and nanotechnology. A Life Fellow of IEEE and the American Association for the Advancement of Science, Meindl is a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Engineering.
He received the 2006 IEEE Medal of Honor, the IEEE’s highest honor. In September 2004, he received the 2004 SRC Aristotle Award, recognizing outstanding teaching in its broadest sense. In 2003, Meindl was awarded first place on the IEEE International Solid State Circuits Conference 50-Year Anniversary Author Honor Roll.
He received the 2001 Class of 1934 Distinguished Professor Award from Georgia Institute of Technology, the 2000 IEEE Third Millenium Medal, the 1999 SIA University Research Award, and the 1997 Hamerschlag Distinguished Alumnus Award from Carnegie Mellon University.
Meindl received his bachelor’s and master’s degrees, as well as his Ph.D., in electrical engineering from Carnegie Institute of Technology (Carnegie Mellon University).
